Carnation (Syzygium aromaticum) is an evergreen tree that grows in places like Indonesia. She has large, shiny leaves and buds that mature to a deep red colour. They contain essential oil with a sweet and pungent aroma. The high content of phenol-eugenol in clove oil explains its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, which help to cope with joint pain.

Use it in low dilution, and at first use, test on a small area of the skin, as clove essential oil can cause skin sensitivity and irritation of mucous membranes in people with allergies or sensitive skin.

A suitable combination of joint pain for fibromyalgia, lupus and arthritis is clove essential oil with sweet orange and cinnamon oil, and apricot oil (Prunus armeniaca) as the base oil.

There are two types of pain: acute, which disappears after several weeks, and chronic, lasting several weeks, months, or even years. Even short-term pain and swelling of the joints is extremely unpleasant, so many are looking for a way to cope with this disease. Regardless of the cause of joint pain, it can usually be controlled with medication, physiotherapy, or alternative treatments. Essential oils have proven effective in alleviating the disease in many studies.

So, for example, in a 2016 study in Iran, it was found that massage with lavender essential oil relieves the pain of patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis. Ninety patients of the clinic who had this problem were selected for the study, after which they were randomly assigned to one of three groups: experimental, control and placebo. Participants from the first and third groups for four weeks attended massage sessions with lavender (3%) and almond oil, respectively. In the control group, no treatment was used. After the first massage, one week of the study and four weeks, data were collected on the well-being of patients. The most significant difference in results was noticeable immediately after the massage. After one week, the level of pain of the subjects was significantly lower in the experimental group, which indicates the rapid and effective action of essential oil (Nasiri, Mahmodi, Nobakht, Birjand University of Medical Sciences, Iran, 2016).
