Researchers from China have focused on analyzing the anti-inflammatory effects of flaxseed oil. It was noted that the composition contains alpha-linolenic acid, which helps to reduce inflammation. The results of intraperitoneal oil injection on rats infected with rheumatoid arthritis were studied. Scientists’ findings suggest that flaxseed oil has a significant anti-inflammatory effect and can be used to treat rheumatoid arthritis ( Kaithwas, Majumdar, Allahabad, Agricultural Institute-Deemed University, India, 2010).
Another study revealed not only the analgesic effect of aromatherapy but also its ability to improve the well-being of patients. Forty patients selected at a medical centre in Korea participated in the study. Essential oils of lavender, marjoram, eucalyptus, rosemary and mint, mixed in proportions of 2: 1: 2: 1: 1, were used. A mixture of essential oils was added at a concentration of 1.5% to a carrier oil consisting of almonds (45%), apricot (45%) and jojoba (10%). The data of the experimental group were compared with the data of the control. The results of this study clearly show that aromatherapy significantly reduces the level of pain and depression in patients ( Kim, Nam, Paik, The Catholic University of Korea, Korea, 2005).
